”I don’t paint what I see. I paint what I feel and dream about.”

About the Artist

Malin Sellergren — artist portrait

The story begins before the brush touches the canvas.

My name is Malin Sellergren. I am a Swedish artist, illustrator, poet, and author based in Hedemora, in the Dalarna region of central Sweden. Through paintings, illustrations, and poetry, I explore the meeting between human experience and the natural world.

It is in the quiet moments of everyday life — a leaf falling in slow motion, the cool softness of moss beneath my fingertips, the wind whispering through ancient forest — that my stories take shape.

I paint to make visible the overlooked: the interplay between the individual and their surroundings, the passage of time, transience, and the unseen in our present moment. In my work, magic and realism coexist — an invitation to places where nature’s presence becomes tangible, where the vast lives within the small, and where every shade carries a story.

The forest is my recurring motif — its power, its mystique, its ancient soul. Through color, light, and poetry, I seek to reveal its secrets and show why it is worth protecting.

For me, art is not decoration — it is communication. Each painting is a portal to something larger, a reminder that beauty and meaning are always present in the here and now.

Selected Works

Mural Painting

I create large-scale murals that transform interior spaces into immersive environments — bringing the forest, the sky, and the dream world into rooms where people live and work. I trained in mural painting at Hantverksakademin in Stockholm, working with traditional techniques including egg oil tempera, lime paint, and fresco-inspired methods.
